Learning healthy money management skills early could be the key to a happy and financially secure future. This education is especially important now since the child/teen demographic is constantly bombarded with products and services that advertisers spend $15 billion each year trying to convince them what they need. 1

In fact, by the time a child reaches 21, they have seen or heard 23 millions "advertising impressions!"2

Brainfit for Life: A User’s Guide to Life-Long Brain Health and Fitness
This presentation will focus on Life-Long brain fitness and how to achieve it. The health of your brain is important at all ages; whether a school-age child trying to perform in school, sports or social environments; a working adult trying to handle work, family and life in general; or an older adult wanting to maintain cognitive health in your golden years. Your brain defines you.

Brain Fitness is about 3 main types of intelligence.

  1. Emotional intelligence is your ability to handle stress, regulate your mood and interact appropriately and productively with other people
  2. Physical intelligence is your brain’s ability to control the rest of your body, including heart rate, blood pressure, immune system and fat burning and storage.
  3. Cognitive intelligence is the health of your mind, including learning and memory skills, creativity and problem solving ability and decision making skills.

You can control the health of your brain with a focus on 4 main cornerstones of brain fitness.
  1. Quality nutrition. You’ll learn what nutrients are good for brain function and why.
  2. Physical activity. You’ll learn how exercise boosts learning and memory capability and keeps the brain young.
  3. Mental activity. The brain follows the ‘use it or lose it’ rule. You’ll learn what types of mental activities help keep brain circuits in top shape.
  4. Sleep. Downtime is as critical as active time and you’ll learn how much sleep is enough and what the consequence are of stealing time from it

Red Cross Training
A Washtenaw Red Cross First Aid Support Volunteer will demonstrate and describe elements from Red Cross CPR and First Aid Training; also they will review key steps for disaster preparedness, and talk about volunteering for the Red Cross.

The American Red Cross of Washtenaw County annually touches the lives of one in three people in the county community by providing 97% of the blood and blood products needed by Washtenaw County hospitals; delivering emergency services to over 293 victims of local disaster; training more than 60,000 residents in lifesaving skills; and delivering emergency messages for 564 area families with loved ones in the armed forces. The chapter is 100% locally funded and relies on individual and corporate gifts as well as donations of time and blood to do its work. The Chapter engages and trains 25 volunteers per paid staff member to help prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. For more information about Red Cross services, or to learn more about volunteer training for disaster response, call 734-971-5300, or visit www.wc-redcross.org. Return to Top
